About Me- Why I Love What I Do
Christy Thompson, CPC, MLT
Thank you for taking the time to consider me as your holistic wellness coach. I’d love the opportunity to work with you.
Animals are my heart. I've always felt this way. My first love was horses. As a child I was in awe of these majestic creatures. I had so many pictures of horses on my walls you could barely see the paint. Living in a California suburb, there was no way we could have a horse. But my parents always promised me that if we ever lived somewhere we could have one, they would get me a horse. And true to their word, when I was 12 they made my dream come true. When dad got transferred to Kentucky with his job, we were finally able to get a horse. Her name was Holly. She was a Tennessee Walking Horse mix, and the sweetest girl in the world. I was also finally able to have dogs and cats then, since my brother’s severe allergies had prevented that as well. My whole life changed.
I’ve spent my life working with, helping, and learning about animals. I’ve had dogs, cats, goats, horses, hamsters, a ferret, and a bunny. I’ve done everything from competitive obedience training, studying animal psychology, and volunteering at shelters to working first at a farm animal rescue organization then as a Veterinary Technician.
I thought I had found my true calling as a Vet Tech. I loved going to work every day. I did this for 3 1/2 years, until a spinal injury from a car wreck forced me to give it up. I was devastated. What was I supposed to do? I read books on finding your dream career, but would just end up in tears because I had already found it, and was having to give it up. I finally decided to go back to school to be a Medical Laboratory Technician. That would at least continue to allow me to be of service in the world, and besides, anything under a microscope fascinates me. So I dove in head first in my studies, graduating summa cum laude with my health science degree. My work in human health has taught me a lot, but still the desire to work with animals remained. I found coaching, and thought that would be the answer. I started health coaching people around food intolerances, but still something was missing. And then my mentor coach (all coaches really do need a coach!) suggested I start doing coaching centered on helping animals. All of the bells and whistles in my heart started going off! I can do that? Really?! So now I feel that all is right with the world. I am doing the coaching which I love, as I’ve seen it make such a profound difference in peoples lives, and helping not just people but also animals. It doesn’t get much better than this!
I hope you will join me on a healing transformation not just for your fur child, but for yourself as well.
May you be well,
